The Sad State of School Libraries
Last night, in conversation, I was amazed to hear that many public schools don’t have a library anymore. I guess that there has to be 1 librarian/library per district. Per district!
When I was in school, especially elementary school, the library was a place of refuge. A place where I could avoid the teasing and the meanness. Where I could immerse myself for a period in the books of Louis Slobodkin (The spaceship series), Madeleine L’Engle (A Wrinkle In Time and the rest of the Time Quartet), books on electronics, science…etc.
I can’t imagine a school without a library.
People wonder why the country is loosing its edge. There are many reasons but one of them is that kids need books to take them somewhere else sometimes. Somewhere in the mind where they can use their imagination and build their creativity.
It is this creativity that will help them navigate adulthood. Help them bring new and innovative stuff to the world.
Nothing new is ever crafted by someone who can’t even dream of it.
I understand that these are tough times, times with budget cuts galore. But the money should be found to enable the schools to do their job.
If it means paying more in taxes, then pay more we must. We don’t have to like paying more but like a trip to the dentist it’s something we must do to stay healthy.
Continue on this course means we are killing the future - one dollar at a time.

End Of Run – “A Twinkle in God’s Eye“
Recently I was notified that the printer of “A Twinkle in God’s Eye“ was changing their Terms of Service and would soon start to charge for low sales and in-activity. While there have been some sales of the book they were too few in number and I would soon start to incur a fee deducted on each order that would nullify any money made from the book’s sale.
In other words - the book was retailing for a discounted price of $10.00 and the fee would be $10.00 leaving me with nothing. Also keep in mind that all sales from the book were being donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
I think you would agree that keeping this going would be idiotic. The goal was to get my words in to as many hands as possible and help a worthy cause.
In response to this I have withdrawn the printed copy of the book from the printer’s inventory and closed my business relationship with them. Amazon still has a few copies in stock and I still have a few here to replenish Amazon’s supply but when they are gone, well, they are gone.
Now, before you get all teary eyed and all; keep in mind that there is a Kindle version of the book and it’s not going away. The Kindle version is now linked in my website navigation and can be purchased for $5.00. You can also search Amazon for the printed version and purchase it for the full list price of $15.00 but when it’s gone, it’s gone.
So that’s it. The dead tree version of my book is moving towards becoming a rare item. Perhaps it will show up in 2111 at Antiques Roadshow and make its current owner millions.
Or perhaps all things end.

The Poetry Of Edwin Cerney
I have added a new area to this web site. This area, titled “The Poetry Of Edwin Cerney” can be found under the “Miscellanea” heading. The poetry is my “uncle’s”. Read the introduction by clicking on the link. Then, if you are inclined, read the poetry.

Projects Underway
I’m doing work to all of these from time to time. Currently the “hush, hush” project has precedence. It may be years until any of these see the light of day. But that’s OK. Good things take time to ferment in my head:
Something “Hush, Hush” ;-) – An Anthology
Robin, a Love Story – A Novella
Web Of Eye’s – A Short Story
Der Harken! – A Short Story
The Golden Corpuscle - A Novel
